The Chinese year begins on January 26, 2009 and it is considered the year of the Ox (Ji Chou).
It ends 15 days later with the observance of the Lantern Festival. The celebration will be observed by the Filipino-Chinese community with several popular traditions meant to attract good fortune and health, prosperity, closer family ties, and peace in every household — festivals, parades, dragon and lion dances, fireworks, family gatherings, and visiting friends and relatives.
Homes have been thoroughly cleaned, fruits believed to invite good fortune will be placed on tables, Lucky money in red envelopes, sweets will be served, and food will be in abundance.
Saying Happy New Year to your Chinese friends is not enough, you should share the following good wishes or Chinese New Year Greetings:
新年快乐!xīn nián kuài lè - Happy New Year!
过年好! ɡuò nián hǎo - Happy New Year!
